Maintenance Guide Walk-off mats: Place bristle in front of all entrances to your home to remove grit and small stones from shoes when people enter your home. This is extremely important, even if your family and guests remove their shoes upon entering. To further protect your hardwood floor from wear, area rugs placed at all entry points are a great investment. Area rugs: Place area rugs in high-wear areas: in front of the sink, the dishwasher and all kitchen work stations to protect your floor from dropped utensils and spills of water and food. Move rugs occasionally to allow even exposure to sunlight and uniform colour changes. Spills: Immediately blot up spills or spots with a damp cloth. Vacuum or sweep your floor as often as needed. Furniture protection: Apply felt pads to the legs of furniture. Check the felt pads for grit every time you sweep or clean your hardwood floors, and replace them as needed. Lift furniture instead of sliding it, even if it slides well with the felt pads. Moving large appliances: If you must slide furniture or appliances, always place a 1/4” masonite panel over the floor before moving them across any floor. Pet nails: Keep your pets nails trimmed to prevent them from scratching your floor. High heels: Remove spiked-heeled shoes or damaged heels before walking on the floor. Spiked or stiletto high-heel shoes may cause damage to your floors due to the extremely high compressive force they generate. Cleaner: Do not use ammonia cleaners or cleaners not especially formulated for use on hardwood because they will dull or damage your hardwood floor. Do not wash or wet mop your laminate floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning material as this could cause swelling, warping, delamination, and joint-line separation, and void the warranty. Never pour cleaner directly onto the floor. Do not allow excess cleaner to remain on the floors surface as this may permanently damage the wood fiber. Indoor humidity: Maintain indoor humidity levels between 40-50% throughout the year, for your own health as well as for the protection of your floor and wooden furniture. |
